Constructed using a 3-layer stainless steel / aluminium / stainless steel sandwich design, the SM-RT86 efficiently dissipates heat generated during braking. The aluminium core allows rapid heat transfer, reducing rotor surface temperatures by up to 50°C. When paired with Shimano Ice-Tech brake pads, surface temperatures can drop from approximately 400°C to 300°C, significantly improving braking consistency, control and overall performance.
The 6-bolt mounting system ensures secure and easy installation across a wide range of compatible hubs. A large forged aluminium spider supports the braking surface, increasing rotor rigidity while keeping weight low. The optimised rotor contact surface improves pad clearing and cooling, extending pad life and enhancing braking response in all conditions.
